A High Victorian Home in the Near Westside Neighborhood nationally registered historic district located in Elmira NY. Victorian homes Near Westside Neighborhood the ”Arthur Clinton House” 530 Water Street Circa 1896 This house is a Pierce and Bickford home. Pierce and Bickford were the High Victorian Home quality architects of their day. This house is classified as a Neo-Classical style home. Let me say that the definition of Neo-Classical means a mixture of styles. This home is Neo-Classical Queen Ann. Arthur Clinton WHO? Arthur Clinton moved to Elmira from Galeton, Pa in 1892. In 1898 he formed a corporation with Frederick Baker and Steven Rose known as Rose, Kimball and Clinton Enterprises. This company was as we know RKB in Elmira NY. In 1898 it was considered a heavy hardware. This translates to railroad tracks and like. HEAVY! Arthur Clinton purchased his lot from John Hoffman who’s circa 1832 home sits next door. Arthur Clinton was vice president of Merchants National Bank. In 1927 when Arthur Clinton died, he left his home to his four children. The Arthur Clinton house is an outstanding example of Victorian Architecture in the Near Westside Neighborhood.
